Liriano Gets Number 12

The Minnesota Twins had their 8 game winning streak snapped on Saturday night, so they were hoping Francisco Liriano would give them a boost on Sunday to get back to winning ways. And Liriano did just that as he pitched lights out going only 5 innings but giving up only 4 hits, striking out 10, and only giving up one run. Liriano would have pitched further into the game had he not used so many pitches in the 5th inning when he walked two batters. Liriano finished his days work with a total of 95 pitches. With the win, Liriano is now 12-2 and has an ERA of 1.93.

The offense wasn't dominating, but they were able to get the job done by scoring 3 runs in the top half of the 3rd inning. The bases were loaded with 2 outs for Michael Cuddyer when he hit one up the middle that Peralta stopped, however Peralta hesitated and Cuddyer was safe. The next batter Morneau picked up 2 RBI with a two out single. Joe Mauer went 2-2 raising his batting average to .381. Morneau now has 80 RBI on the season and Cuddyer now has 59.

The bullpen was a lot better on Sunday than it was on Saturday, The Twins brought in Pat Neshek for 1.2 innings, and he walked one batter and struck out two. Reyes then came into the game to get 2 batters, both batters he faced he struck out. The Twins then brought in their 8th and 9th inning guys, Rincon went .2 innings giving up a hit and striking out one. Nathan pitched the ninth and gave up a leadoff single only to follow with a 1-2-3 inning striking out 2 batters. The save was Nathan's 19th of the year.

Minor League Notes:
The Twins have signed veteran outfielder Quinton McCracken to AAA Rochester, McCracken played for the Twins in 2001. Dave Gassner has been sent down to Fort Myers to continue to rehab after an injury. Finally, Tom Kelly has been down with the AAA Rochester team helping some of the Twins prospects.

Don't Miss It:
