Twins Get Number 70

The Minnesota Twins picked up win number 70 on the year and are the 4th team in the AL to do so. The others teams include Detroit, Chicago, and New York. With their win on Wednesday, the Twins also moved into second place in the Wild Card behind the White Sox by just one game.
The Twins pitching was good, however Silva went only 5 innings but he only gave up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 batters. Silva didn't get the win, but he kept the Twins in a close game and allowed them to win. After his 5 innings of work on Wednesday, he now has lowered his ERA to 6.30 after being above 7.00 at one point this season.

The offense was better, however they stranded a lot of runners early in the game. the Twins were tied going into the bottom of the eighth inning by a score of 2 to 2. The Twins got a single followed by a walk to get runners at 1st and 2nd. Bartlett then got a bunt single followed by an infield RBI single by Luis Castillo. Joe Mauer helped add another run when he go a Sac-Fly putting the Twins up 4-2. The Twins broke it open when Cuddyer hit a 3-run homerun to give the Twins a lead 7-2. The Twins had a total of 17 hits, 14 of the hits were singles while one was a homerun and two were doubles.

The bullpen did a spectacular job after Silva went just 5 innings. They pitched a total of 4 innings giving up no runs and striking out 5 batters. Jesse Crain pitched 1.2 innings giving up 1 hit while striking out a batter as well. Reyes pitched an inning and struck out 2 batters. With runners at 1st and 2nd the Twins brought in Pat Neshek and he struck out the only batter he faced. To finish the game, since it wasn't a save opportunity, the Twins brought in Guerrier. He pitched 1 innings striking out 1 batter.

Twins Notes:
Mauer went 1-4 and his batting average is now at .361, he also picked up 2 RBI and now has 67. With his homerun, Cuddyer now has 18 homeruns on the year, he also picked up 3 RBI and now has 77. Finally, Bartlett went 4-4 and is batting .369 since his call up, the 8 and 9 hitters went a combined 7-7.

Today the Twins will go for a sweep of the Indians as they play a day game at 12:10 CDT. The Twins will send out Matt Garza (0-1) vs. Paul Byrd (7-6). The game will be on 830 WCCO and WILL also be on FSN North.
