First Full-Team Workout

Last weekend marked the beginning of the 2007 season with the opening of Spring Training for both pitchers and catchers. This weekend marked the opening for the whole team as they has their first full-team workout of the year. With today being the first full-team workout, there were a lot of headlines, heres are a few.

Jose Mijares left camp early Saturday after his brother Jackson Mijares was shot and killed in Caracas, Venezuela late Friday night. Two other family members were also shot and wounded in the incident.

La Velle E. Neal III has some interesting things to talk about including the writers softball game and the first day of batting practice. Joe Christensen answered questions from readers of his blog. One of them happened to be mine.

TwinsTerritory asks: Will you be around the minor league camp?

I should make it there a couple times this spring. After all, it’s right across the parking lot from where I’m sitting at Hammond Stadium. I know there are a lot of good stories over there. I want to check in on Loek Van Mil, the 7-foot-1 pitcher from the Netherlands we wrote about last spring.

Finally, Ramon Ortiz said that he is happy to be back in the American League, not because he has better stats but because he doesn't like to hit. In the same article, you can read about the first player to get hit and Matt Garza's small neck pain.

"Making the Team":
If you have not read the first edition of "Making the Team", you can do so by going here. As I mentioned in the post, I'll try to update the list one time per week or when players get cut. If you have a player that you think I should add, just let me know in the comments section.
