Spring Training Notes

Today, unlike yesterday, there was a lot going on at Twin's Spring Training. Yesterday because of the Twin's charity golf tournament, the workouts were cut short and players were moving very quick and this led to basically no news out of camp. However, today there was plenty of news ranging from more players arriving to players learning new positions.

As you already know, Ramon Ortiz has missed almost the first full week of Spring Training due to visa problems. Well, all of those issues and questions of when he would arrive came to an end when he showed up this afternoon. Ortiz is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session tomorrow with pitching coach Rick Anderson. Today, two more position players showed up including Luis Castillo and Alejandro Machado. According to the Twins official site, with these players arrivals, now all 59 players have reported.

Today, both Alejandro Machado and Garret Jones worked with Twins first base coach Jerry White in the outfield. Both players are expected to get a lot of practice and innings in the outfield this spring. Especially Alejandro Machado because with him having one of the biggest chances of any young player to make the roster, the Twins might want him to be able to play both in the infield and outfield.

Some other stories from today include J.D. Durbin having a good bullpen session, Rondell White looking good in the batting cage, and Liriano's patience being tested so far this Spring.

With the first day of full-team workouts being tomorrow, make sure to check back for any news or pictures from camp. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to do a series of posts on the biggest "Burning Questions" for the Twins this spring, so let me know what your take is on this idea and if you think I should do this, leave your "Burning Questions" in the comments below or e-mail them to me. For today, I'll leave you with some more pictures from ESPN.
