Getting Caught Up...

Over the last few days, there have been a lot of things happenining in Spring Training, so lets get caught up on everything that you need to know.

- Rule 5 draft pick Alejandro Machado has a tear in his rotator cuff and is out indefinitely. Gardenhire said that the team will go with players within the organization to fill the role. Machado will start the season on the DL so he can remain with the team.

- Ron Gardenhire will coach in the All-Star game this season. He said the Tiger's manager Jim Leyland called him up in the last couple of days and asked him to join him on coaching staff.

- Perkins had a rough outing against the Red Sox, and in my opinion will probably be sent to minor league camp soon so he can pitch more often.

- Ponson pitched mediocre today and I'm not to fond of having him the in the rotation over a younger guy. (I'll have more on this later)

- Finally, the Twins are moving forward with the new ballpark. There is more about this below.

Huge Ballpark News:
Last night, on KSTP and FSN, Twins president Jerry Bell made some big announcements. Those announcements were that the Twins organization will immediately begin seeking bids for excavation work at the site in downtown Minneapolis as they are close to a deal for the land. He also made the announcement that the unveiling of the design will be on April 5th which is great news for Twins fans.

To sum this up, it means that the chances of us seeing a new ballpark by 2010 have just grown hugely. It also means that the Twins will begin work on the field soon, and as Jerry Bell said, the groundbreaking could come as soon as August.
