Spring Training: Game 1

Last night kicked off the Twins Spring Training schedule, and although it's just Spring Training, it gives us an idea of some of the things to expect. The Twins didn't win and they didn't lose, the game ended in a tie after the 10th inning with both teams ties at four. Here are my biggest observations along with some of the players stats who could be making the team.

Some Observations:
- Matt Garza pitched awesome. He pitched only two innings, but he didn't allow a hit and even struck out Davis Ortiz swinging.

- Scott Baker pitched horrible. He pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 7 hits and 4 runs. This game is definitely not going to help his chances, but it's only the first Spring Training game so he will have more time to impress.

- Mauer showed some of his power. Last season, Mauer was more of a single and double hitter, however I expect him to get more power this season. He showed that as he hit an opposite field three-run homerun to tie the game in the 5th inning.

- Rondell White had a nice game going 2-3 with a RBI.

Hitting Notes:
Castillo: 1-3
Tyner: 1-3 (Run Scored)
Mauer: 1-3 (HR, 3 RBI)
White: 2-3 (RBI)
Hunter: 1-3
LeCroy: 1-4
Harvey: 1-2
Rodriguez: 1-4
Bartlett: 1-2 (Run Scored)

The other players who also played were Casilla, Watkins, Heintz, Jones, Span, and Williams. Casilla scored a run while the rest of the players went without a hit.

Pitching Notes:
2 innings, no hits, 1 K
Baker: 1.1 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 K's
Barret: 1 inning, one hit
Voyles: 1 inning, no hits

The other players that pitched include Miller, Simonitsch , and DePaula.

More Notes:
- Hunter tore his thumb nail and will more likely miss a few games.

- Lew Ford will stay off his feet for three days and then have another MRI. He is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

- LEN3 was at the game and he posted his observations along with other notes.

- Jason Williams put up a post, stating that Ponson should "watch out".

I'll have more links and other news later today. The Twins will head out of town to play the Yankees today. The game will start at 12:15 and the Twins will send Carlos Silva to the mound to face off against Chien-Ming Wang. Juan Rincon is also scheduled to pitch.
