Game 13: Seattle Mariners

The Twins opened up their six game road trip yesterday with an 11-2 win over the Mariners. The offense did a lot of great things and looked re-energized from the day off on Monday. Ramon Ortiz on the other hand, put on another great performance to pick up the win and his third start with at least seven innings or more. The Twins are now 8-5 on the season and have five games remaining on their road trip.

Ramon Ortiz has looked very good so far this season, and that was the case again on Tuesday. The game didn't get started the way he would have liked, because on the first pitch, Ichiro hit a homerun to centerfield. However, he got out of that inning and pitched very well. His final line was 7 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs and no walks or strikeouts. With the win, his ERA is now 2.05 and he leads the team and league in wins with a record of 3-0.

The bullpen picked up the seventh and eighth innings and each were scoreless. Reyes pitched the seventh inning and gave up one hit. Neshek pitched the ninth inning, and after walking and giving up a hit to the first two batters, he pitched a scoreless inning. His inning included two strikeouts and no walks. Another bullpen note is that Crain is now available to pitch after getting about a week off for rest, and will be the seventh inning guy.

Offensively, the Twins had an awesome night. They picked up a season high 15 hits and scored a total of 11 runs off of those hits. A very common thing on the night was extra base hits as 9 of the Twins 15 hits were extra base hits. Below are the stats for the keys players, and included are doubles and triples.

Luis Castillo: 1-4; 2 Runs
Jason Tyner: 3-5; RBI, 3 Runs and 2 2B
Joe Mauer: 3-4; 3 RBI, 2 Runs and 3 2B
Michael Cuddyer: 2-5; 3 RBI and 3B
Justin Morneau: 0-3; Run and BB
Torii Hunter: 2-4; Run, 4 RBI, 2B and HR(2)
Jason Kubel: 1-5
Luis Rodriguez: 1-5; Run
Jason Bartlett: 2-5; 2 Runs

Hunter left the game in the seventh inning after bruising his shoulder trying to make a diving catch. He is day to day, and is expected to play tonight.
