Just a Sprain

Nick Punto hurt his ankle on Saturday in batting practice, and the Twins had him get an MRI on it today to see if it was more serious. The news was good as the MRI revealed that it was just a sprain and nothing worse. The Twins expect Punto to play in the upcoming series and Rodriguez and Casilla will fill in until he is ready to play.

Had Punto went on the DL, the Twins would have been in some trouble with Cirillo already out and no minor leaguers ready to be called up. The Twins still have five players on the DL including Machado and Liriano expected to be out all season. The other three players include Lew Ford (knee), Jeff Cirillo (knee) and Rondell White (strain). White should be back soon while Ford and Cirillo have no apparent timetable for a return.

Thanks to La Velle for the Update.
