White and Cirillo Hit DL

The Twins announced after the game yesterday that they have placed starting leftfielder Rondell White and backup infielder Jeff Cirillo on the 15-day disabled list. To take their spots on the roster, the Twins have called up prospect Alexi Casilla and outfielder Josh Rabe.

I was a little surprised that they placed White on the DL. White said that he is a little upset but also mentioned that he understands that the team needs more depth. One other thing that White added was that he should be back soon. This means that Rabe will proably not be up for long, but he could start tonight. Finally, to make room for him on the roster, the Twins were forced to purchase his contract.

Cirillo on the other hand, will have knee surgery to fix an old knee problem. He is expected to be out for at least a month, so unless Casilla does really bad, he should be up for that time. The Twins had planned to keep him at AAA for the whole season, but they said they really needed an extra infielder. Gardenhire said that he will play second base and shortstop.
