Game 30: Boston Red Sox

The Twins were able to beat the Red Sox tonight and finally pick up a win. The game was almost the exact same as the one they lost last night, the only difference was that the Twins won. Both last night and tonight, the Twins only managed four hits. Also, in both games, the starters gave up just one run. However, tonight the Twins were the team with two runs and won by a final of 2-1.

Johan Santana didn't pitch his best, and is obviously not in his dominant form yet. However, he did go five innings and allowed just run to one of the best hitting teams, so I can't wait to see his dominant side. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 1 run and 5 strikeouts. With the win, his ERA is now 3.40 and he now has a record of 4-2.

The bullpen was the key for the Twins tonight. With Santana only going five innings, the bullpen had to pick up the final four, and they did just that. In fact, the bullpen pitched four innings and allowed no hits or runs. Guerrier pitched one inning, and in that inning he walked two and also picked up two strikeouts. Crain then pitched the seventh inning and got a one-two-three inning. Neshek came in for the eighth inning and after getting two quick outs, he ran into some trouble and Nathan finished off the inning. Nathan also pitched the ninth and picked up his eighth save of the season.

The offense was just as bad as yesterday, but since they won, I wont be so negative about it. Much like yesterday, the only good thing that happened was Torii Hunter's double to extend his hitting streak to 20 games. The only difference in the two games was two clutch hits in the second inning.

Injury Notes:
1) Lew Ford has now played six games with the AAA Red Wings. He has played pretty well, but there is still no timetable for his return to the majors.

2) Michael Cuddyer will sit out again tomorrow and is then scheduled to be in the lineup to start the Chicago White Sox series on Tuesday.

3) Reyes wasn't available for the past two games with a sore elbow. However, he did play catch today and should be ready to go tomorrow if needed.

4) Finally, Joe Mauer was scratched from the lineup today just an hour before the first pitch with a sore quad. Mauer will most likely sit out again tomorrow and is expected to have a precautionary MRI on Monday. Lets hope that he will not miss an extended period of time.

Next Game:
The Twins will go for a series win over the Red Sox tomorrow when they send out Sidney Ponson (2-3; 6.67) to face off against Curt Schilling (3-1; 3.15) and the Boston Red Sox. The first pitch is set for 1:10 CT and will be on WFTC29 (FSN Outstate).
