In-Game Notes

They're just underway at the Metrodome, and so far things are looking a little shaky. I have some notes, and I wanted to share them right now, so below are some early thoughts.

1) Santana loaded up the bases in the first, and got a strike three call to Ortiz and a Nick Punto web gem to avoid damage. In the second, he gave up two more hits and then again got out of it. I'm not sure if it's just me, but so far this season Santana looks like he is having trouble finishing guys off. Tonight, he had two strikes on Youkilis, Rameriez and Drew. However, to each batter he gave up a hit or walked them.

2) Tavarez needed just 11 pitches to get out of the first inning. Hopefully we wont make him look like a Cy-Young winner like we have so many bad pitchers all season.

3) Cirillo had a nice at-bat in the bottom of the second, making Tavarez throw 10 pitches and eventually walking.

4) Is it against the law to swing at the first two strikes? You would think that since the team is in a slump, they would swing at anything in the zone, but that has not been the case. Punto watched to pitches down the pipe, and then struckout swinging.

5) As I was writing this, the offense broke out for some runs. They lead 2-0 still in the bottom of the second after Tyner and Bartlett each picked up one RBI.

Baltimore is beating up on the Indians 6-0 early and Detroit is losing to the Royals 3-0 early. I hope to have a game recap later tonight.
