Game 69: New York Mets

The Twins beat the Mets tonight as both their offense and pitching showed up. Santana took the mound for the Twins, and pitched his first complete game shutout of the season. The offense took off early in the second inning, and never looked back. I guess when you can say that the only thing that went wrong was Santana getting only one strikeout, it's a good night.

Johan Santana has pitched very well all season, but many think he has been worse simply because of the lack of run support. Tonight, he put out a great performance on the mound, and even added some offense. Santana's final line was 9 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs and 1 strikeout. I was a little disappointed he only got one strikeout, but I can't complain. Santana picked up the win, and is now 7-6 on the season with an awesome 2.91 ERA. Oh, did I mention that Santana walked, doubled and scored a run?

The offense was great tonight, and they got it going with a five run second inning. No homeruns were involved, but the Twins tallied thirteen total hits, and everybody picked one up but the slumping Luis Castillo. Here is the RBI list, and their new season totals:

Tyner (13)
Castillo (12)
Mauer (17)
Cuddyer 2 (45)
Morneau (55)
Cirillo (13)

Within the next couple of days, I hope to share my opinion on some different matters, and get caught up on the recent trade speculation. Also, make sure to check back tomorrow for a daily game recap.
