Game 70: New York Mets

The Twins won the series with the Mets tonight with a 6-2 win. Scott Baker wasn't horrible, and with the start probably bought himself some more time in the majors. The offense scored six runs off of a pretty pitcher, and almost the whole lineup collected hits. With the win, the Twins are now 36-34 on the season.

Scott Baker was depending on this start to stay in the majors, and did a decent job. Baker allowed a total of two runs over five innings, and picked up his second win of the season. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs and 3 strikeouts. With the win, his record is now 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA on the season.

The bullpen pitched much better than they have lately. Dennys Reyes came in for the sixth inning, and got two outs before exiting for Matt Guerrier. Guerrier then pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Neshek and Nathan picked up the final two innings of the game, and each pitched scoreless inning as well.

The offense was pretty good, scoring six runs off of seven total hits. Mauer and Hunter were the keys tonight as they each picked up two hits. Hunter hit his fifteenth homerun of the season, and Mauer had a two run double. Justin Morneau and Mike Redmond also collected RBI hits on the night. With the RBI hits, Hunter and Morneau now have 56, Redmond has 21 and Mauer has 19.

I hope to get a picture of Bert with his shaved head up either later tonight or tomorrow.
