Game 71: Florida Marlins
The Twins lost the first game of a three game series against the Florida Marlins 5-4, and may have lost their first basemen as well. Boof Bonser pitched pretty well, and the offense was decent. Gardenhire made a bad choice of bringing in Rincon, and he cost the Twins a chance at winning. Meanwhile, Justin Morneau was hurt in a collision and was taken to the hospital in a stretcher.
Boof Bonser had a good night tonight, and although he went six innings, had it been in an American League park, he may have pitched a complete game. Bonser exited for a pinch hitter, but had thrown just sixty-six pitches after six innings. Bonser's final line was 6 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs and 2 strikeouts. Bonser got a no-decision, but now has a 4.45 ERA on the season.
Juan Rincon came in and pitched the seventh and part of the eighth inning, and this decision cost the Twins the game. The seventh inning wasn't bad, but with two outs in the eighth, Rincon gave up a homerun, his third straight game that he has allowed one. Neshek then came in and got the final out, but the Twins were already down. After the game, Gardenhire said he made a mistake by not bringing in Neshek to pitch.
The offense wasn't horrible, and managed to score four runs off their total nine hits. Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter each picked up RBI hits, and both now have 57 RBI on the season. Meanwhile, Jason Kubel pinch hit in the eighth inning, and doubled.

As I mentioned above, Justin Morneau was injured and has been taken to the hospital for X-rays and scans on his chest. This news is definitely not good, and our prayers are with Morneau. I hope Morneau doesn't miss an extended period of time, and I'll try to get an update up when more information is known. You can also check out Joe's blog as he will most likely have the news first.
