Game 77: Toronto Blue Jays
The Twins split the series with the Toronto Blue Jays today with a 8-5 victory. Frank Thomas hit his 500th homerun in the first inning, and the Blue Jays took an early 4-0 lead. However, the Twins offense lit it up in the middle innings, and fought back for a deserving victory. With the win, the Twins are now 40-37 on the season, and have a huge series with Detroit coming up this weekend.
Carlos Silva had a rough first inning, but after that, he pitched six innings allowing just one run. Silva's final line was 7 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs and 5 strikeouts. He did actually manage to pick up the win because he lasted so long, and is now 6-8 on the season. Through the game, he now has a 4.15 ERA as well.
The bullpen picked up the final two innings, and Rincon pitched first. In his one inning, Rincon allowed no runs or hits and picked up one strikeout. The ninth inning went to Joe Nathan in a save opportunity, and he pitched a scoreless inning while picking up two strikeouts for his 15th save of the season.
Justin Morneau returned to the Twins lineup today, and the offense played very well. Torii Hunter had two hits, and both were homeruns. With the two homeruns, he now has 17 on the season to go along with his 62 RBI. Jason Tyner also played well, and went 3-4 on the day. In addition to these two players, Bartlett hit his second homerun of the season while going 2-3 while Michael Cuddyer went 1-3.
