Speigner Coming Back?
According to reports, the Washington Nationals sent former Twins farmhand Levale Speigner to the minors yesterday, and since he is a Rule 5 draftee, a couple of things have to happen. First, he must clear waivers before getting to the minors. After that, the Nationals must offer him back to his original club, the Minnesota Twins, for $25,000.
I would think the Twins would take him back for that price, because he should have some potential. However, the Washington Post had the following quote in a story:
Bowden said he had a conversation with the Twins about potentially making a
deal for Speigner that would allow him to end up in the minors for Washington,
but that nothing was close.
It should be interesting to see what the Twins do, will they wait and take him back? Will they just let him stay with the Nationals? Or, will they make a trade with the Nationals for a player or money to get something out of him.
I personally, think they should make a trade, and get an offensive player out of him. However, if the player has no chance to helping this team, then obviously don't make the trade. I should also add that the quality of the player may not be very good depending how how much he is worth to the Nationals.
