Game 106: Kansas City Royals
The Twins won their fourth straight game tonight with a 5-3 victory over the Royals. For the second straight night, their starter went eight innings, and the save went to Joe Nathan. The offense put up a four spot in the second, and that would be enough for the win. Cleveland got beat, so the Twins did gain a game in the Wild Card.
Carlos Silva, and the rest of the Twins pitching staff has pitched pretty well so far in the second half. Tonight, they got their fourth straight quality start, and second straight eight inning performance. Silva's final line was 8 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs and 3 strikeouts. With the win, he is now 9-11 on the season with a pretty decent 4.61 ERA.
For the second night in a row, the bullpen was saved, and only Nathan had to pitch. He picked up his twenty-fourth save of the season after allowing a homerun.
The offense looked pretty good, and capitalized on an error by the Royals in the second inning. Overall, they scored five runs off eight total hits. The biggest hit came from Hunter who hit his twenty-second homerun of the season, and also got robbed of another. Alexi Casilla got the start at second, and picked up a hit and an RBI.
