Game 95: Detroit Tigers
The Tigers finished off the sweep of the Twins today in extra innings. With the 4-3 loss, the Twins have now lost four straight one run games to the Tigers, and are now nine games back in the division. Scott Baker pitched a good game today and allowed all three runs in the seventh inning. The offense was better, but again missed multiple opportunities to score.
Scott Baker has been great along with the rest of the starting pitchers lately. He looked good again today, and allowed three runs in just over six innings of work. Baker's final line was 6.1 innings, 10 hits, 3 runs and 3 strikeouts. Baker did not pick up a decision, but now has a 5.32 ERA on the season.
The bullpen used four pitchers to finish the rest of the game, and they pitched pretty well. Matt Guerrier was in first out of the bullpen and gave up a hit and got an out before exiting for Reyes. Reyes got the final out and gave up a leadoff hit the next inning before Pat Neshek entered. Neshek continued his dominance finishing up the inning picking up two strikeouts along the way. Joe Nathan would pick up the loss after pitching the ninth and tenth innings. In the tenth inning, he allowed two hits and the go ahead run for the Tigers.
The Twins offense has been horrible lately, and although they scored just three runs today, they did get more hits. The Twins scored those three runs off of elven hits today including three from Kubel, two from Morneau and two from Bartlett.
