It's Brian Buscher

When Darnell McDonald was sent down after the game today, all the speculation was that the Twins would call up Brian Buscher. Well, that looks very likely, and will probably be made official tomorrow.

Brian Buscher started at third base tonight for the Rochester Red Wings, and was taken out after his second at bat. Word is that manager Ron Gardenhire even mentioned it as a strong possibility after the game. So, I guess we can all say welcome to Brian.

On the season at AAA, Buscher had played in 35 games and was batting .313 with 6 homeruns and 20 RBI through tonight's game. Previously to that, he spent his season at AA, and played in 63 game hitting .308 with 7 homeruns and 37 RBI.

I can't say that Buscher will come in and turn around this team, but I think it was a great move. Punto hasn't been nearly what he was last season, and I think it's time to see if Buscher is our future guy at third.

Only time will tell, but hopefully he'll get plenty of playing time, and consistent playing time to show what he has. Best of luck to Darnell back at Rochester, and we hope he's back up here in September.

UPDATE: It's official. The Minnesota Twins announced this afternoon that they will indeed purchase the contract of Brian Buscher from AAA Rochester. To make room for him, they have transferred Josh Rabe from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
