Slowey Sent Down
After the game today, the Twins decided to send starting pitcher Kevin Slowey back to the minors to get some more work. Slowey at times this season impressed everybody, but there were also times when it was clear he needed just a little more tuning up. His main problem in my opinion was that he gave up way to many homeruns.
In his time up in the majors, Slowey started 7 games for the Twins and went 3-0 with a 5.84 ERA. In addition to this, he pitched a total of 37 innings, and allowed a total of 24 runs.
One thing I want to make clear is that Slowey definitely has a very bright future, but he does still need to learn some things, and in a tight race, he can't really do it at this level. I'm sure we'll see him again later this season or for sure next season, but for now, Matt Garza will have his chance to show what he can do.
To take Slowey's spot on the roster, the Twins have called up left-hander Carmen Cali. This will be Cali's second stint with the club, and his first was very good. In his first stint, he pitched in just 5.1 innings, but had a 0.00 ERA and looked very sharp.
