Game 113: Kansas City

The Minnesota Twins broke out of a couple of slumps last night on their way to an 11-4 victory over the Royals. The slumps included their small losing streak, their homerun drought and their offensive slump. Johan Santana finally picked up a win, and the bullpen pitched fine with the exception of Ramon Ortiz. The Indians and Tigers lost, and the Twins are now five back in the Wild Card and five and a half back in the division.

Johan Santana has pitched pretty well so far in the second half, but hasn't gotten much support and has few wins to show for his work. Yesterday, he finally got some run support, and used it to pick up a win. His final line was 6 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs and 6 strikeouts. With the win, he is now 12-9 on the season with a 2.98 ERA.

The Twins used two pitchers out of the bullpen including Matt Guerrier and Ramon Ortiz. Guerrier looked like his normal self, pitching an inning and allowing just a hit. Ortiz looked like his normal self as well, but that isn't a compliment. Ortiz pitched two innings, and allowed two runs and four hits.

As mentioned above, the Twins offense got a much needed big game. They hit their first homerun since July, and those came from the bats of Michael Cuddyer and Torii Hunter. Everybody picked up a hit, and for that matter, reached base more than one time. Instead of going through everything, here are some new season totals, and for more stats, check out the Box Score below.

HR: Cuddyer (11), Hunter (23) RBI: Mauer (49), Cuddyer (61), Redmond (45) and Hunter (79).
