Game 119: Seattle Mariners
The Twins finally snapped a five game skid last night, and it was an all around great game by the pitching and hitters to collect the 11-3 victory. Matt Garza finally got some run support and took it and ran with it. The bullpen pitched two scoreless innings including Neshek off a bad outing. And lastly, the offense scored 11 runs off 18 hits to finally break out of a scoring slump.
Matt Garza could easily be undefeated if he had gotten any run support in his three losses. Last night, he finally got some of that run support, and put up another good outing to take the victory. Garza's final line was 7 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs and 2 strikeouts. With the win, he is now 2-3 on the season with a very good 2.05 ERA.
The bullpen got the final two innings, with a big lead, and handled them very well. Pat Neshek came off a bad outing, and pitched a scoreless inning of work. Joe Nathan then came in with no save opportunity and pitched a scoreless inning as well as collecting two strikeouts.
The offense has been horrid over the recent week, and the Twins were finally able to snap out of it. Everybody in the lineup but Nick Punto collected at least one hit, and six different players picked up at least one RBI. The key players were Alexi Casilla (3-6; 2 RBI), Jason Bartlett (3-6; HR), Torii Hunter (3-4; 4 runs), Justin Morneau (2-5; 2 RBI), Michael Cuddyer (2-3; RBI) and Mike Redmond (2-5; 2 RBI).
A few other that played well were Joe Mauer (1-5), Rondell White (2 RBI) and Jason Tyner (1-1; pinch hit).
