Game 124: Seattle Mariners

The Twins kicked off their big series with the Seattle Mariners tonight with a 9-4 loss. Matt Garza had a rare hiccup, and his first poor outing of the season. After he left early in the game, the bullpen pitched pretty well the rest of the way. The offense did a little better job tonight, but didn't really get started until later in the game.

Matt Garza has been brilliant since being called up earlier in the season, but tonight had a rare poor outing. He lasted just into the third inning, and left a lot of balls up in the zone, which was showed by the four homeruns he allowed. His final line was 2.1 innings, 9 hits, 7 runs and 2 strikeouts.

The bullpen then had to pick up the final 6.2 innings, and as I mentioned, did a pretty good job. Carmen Cali pitched 3.2 solid innings, and allowed just two hits. Matt Guerrier then came on and pitched the next 2.0 innings allowing three hits and two runs. The final inning went to Dennys Reyes, and he pitched a solid inning, allowing just a hit.

The offense has been bad recently, and tonight they weren't awesome, but showed a few improvements. On the game, they scored a total of four runs, and picked up nine total hits. The key guys were Justin Morneau (3-4) and Joe Mauer (2-4). In addition to these guys, Tommy Watkins got yet another hit and Michael Cuddyer picked up two RBI.
