Game 129: Baltimore Orioles
The Twins kept their four game winning streak alive, and their chance to go for a sweep of the Orioles today with a 7-1 victory last night. Matt Garza looked shaky at times, but battled out of multiple jams to pitch a decent game. The offense scored early, and added a little bit as the game went along to keep the lead. With the win, the Twins are now 66-63 on the season, and still 5.5 games back in the division.
Matt Garza struggled with his control at times, walking four batters in the game. But, he worked out of each jam for a pretty good outing. Garza's final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 1 run and 2 strikeouts. He did pick up the victory after going five innings, and is now 3-4 on the season with a 3.16 ERA.
The bullpen did a nice job after he exited, and four pitchers got work in. Juan Rincon was in first, and pitched a scoreless sixth inning after walking one, and giving up a hit. Carmen Cali then came in for the seventh, and got two outs before giving way to Matt Guerrier. He then pitched the final out, and a scoreless eighth. The ninth went to DePaula, and in his first outing since being called up, he pitched a quick one-two-three inning.
The offense had been down before this series, but the last three games have all been pretty good. Last night, they scored seven runs off nine hits, and again had a homerun. The homerun went to Hunter for his 26th of the season, it was a three-run blast. In addition to this, Bartlett, Cuddyer and Redmond all collected RBI on the game.
