Busy Off-Season...

With the end of the regular season, two seasons always follow -- the postseason and the off-season. This year, the Twins will be partaking in just one of those, but it will be a very busy one nonetheless.

When the season ends, the Twins will start the off-season right away, and will be forced to make decisions on Torii Hunter, Carlos Silva and a few others. They will need to look for guys to fill certain roles on the team and they will need to improve the team in every way possible including trades.

Some of the position question marks include left field and third base. Here is a list of each position, who will be the locks and where the team will need to improve.

Catcher: Joe Mauer
1st Base: Justin Morneau
2nd Base: Alexi Casilla or Nick Punto
3rd Base: Free Agent or Other
Shortstop: Jason Bartlett
Left Field: Jason Kubel
Center Field: Torii Hunter or Other
Right Field: Michael Cuddyer
Designated Hitter: Free Agent or Other

Rotation 1: Johan Santana
Rotation 2: Francisco Liriano
Rotation 3: Matt Garza
Rotation 4: Kevin Slowey
Rotation 5: Carlos Silva - Scott Baker - Free Agent - Other

Bullpen 1: Joe Nathan
Bullpen 2: Matt Guerrier
Bullpen 3: Dennys Reyes
Bullpen 4: Glen Perkins
Bullpen 5: Jesse Crain
Bullpen 6: Pat Neshek
Bullpen 7: Julio DePaula - Juan Rincon - Free Agent - Other

Bench 1: Mike Redmond
Bench 2: Nick Punto or Alexi Casilla
Bench 3: Tommy Watkins - Brian Buscher - Alejandro Machado - Garrett Jones
Bench 4: Josh Rabe - Jason Tyner - Free Agent - Other

As you can see from all of these red marks, there are a lot of different things that need to be figured out. At the same time, there are a lot of things already solved, and for the most part, that is the pitching.

Some of the things we basically know are that the rotation will be pretty much settled, and nobody (maybe Silva) will have to be signed. Mauer, Morneau and all of those guys are locks for the lineup, but there are still holes.

There will be position battles for the bench spots, second base, a bullpen spot (if we go with twelve pitchers) and possibly other things.

Now, all of the things you see in red, are the things that I'll go over during the course of the next week or so. I'll go over the second base position, and what might happen with everything else.

What do you think? Are there people you think we might sign? Positions that you think will come from the organization? Share you comments here.
