It's Official: Twins Keep Nathan

The Minnesota Twins made the news official today that they have decided to pick up the 2008 option on closer Joe Nathan. The Twins had the option to get out of his contract with a $1 million buyout, but chose to instead give him the 1-year $6 million option.

The move was rumored last week when Nathan told the Star Tribune that the Twins would in fact pick up the option, and that he was simply waiting for all of the paperwork to get done.

Since joining the Twins along with Liriano and Bonser in the famous A.J. Pierzynski trade, Nathan has collected 160 saves, and is second on the Twins all-time saves list behind only Rick Aguilera.

Although Nathan is locked up for the 2008 season, the possibility of an extension is still there as Nathan and his agent have both said they are open to the idea.
